This competition was organised between Cochrane Malaysia and Students-4-Best Evidence and coordinated by Dr Tan May Loong. Wiley had donated US500.00 worth of book prizes. The competition was judged by Martin Burton, Director of Cochrane UK and Hans Van Rostenberghe of USM. Hans is a Cochrane author and blogger himself. The winning and second winners were featured on the Students-4-Best evidence website, an award winning website
Students were instructed to submit blog on one of two topics.
1. Evidence based health practice – a fairytale or reality?
2. Challenges in learning Evidence Based Medicine and what and how I overcame them
1st prize: Goh Zhong Ning Leonard, Final year Medical Student, International Medical University, Malaysia. Topic: Evidence based health practice – a fairytale or reality?
2nd prize: Foo Wee Nee, Final year Medical Student, Penang Medical College, Malaysia. Topic: Wading Through Conflicting Literature on G6PD Deficiency
3rd prize: Chin Yuh Haur, Lee Chen Yuan and Lee Kar Yan, Final year Pharmacy students, International Medical University, Malaysia. Topic: Evidence based health practice – a fairytale or reality?
The prizes for the 1st and 3rd winners were presented by Steve McDonald Co-Director of Cochrane Australia at a small ceremony in the Dahlia meeting room at the Public Health Institute, KL in the presence of the Malaysian Cochrane Coordinating Group, Prof Dr Mallikarjuna Rao Pichika, Associate Dean for Research & Consultancy, School of Pharmacy, IMU and Associate Professor Dr Hally Sreerama Reddy Chandrashekhar Thummala, Department of Community Medicine, School of Medicine IMU. The second prize winner, who is away on her elective, will be presented her prize in January by Prof Stephan Doughty, President of Penang Medical College.
