Cochrane Malaysia Annual Volunteer Translators’ Meet Up, November 2024

On the 8th and 9th of November, we hosted Cochrane Malaysia’s Annual Translator Meetup at RUMC MInTFM Office, KL Sentral Plaza. This event brought together volunteer Bahasa Malaysia Cochrane translators and distinguished academic expert in translation: Associate Professor Dr. Haslina Haroon from University Sains Malaysia (USM). Dr. Haslina delivered a well-received presentation titled “Enhancing Translation Quality”, which provided valuable insights into improving the accuracy, fluency, and usability of translated material and real-life examples of poor translation.

Associate Professor Teguh, our Malay Translation Project Manager reported that since the publication of the first Bahasa Malaysia-translated Plain Language Summary in February 2015, over 4,500 summaries have been made available, amassing more than 6 million page views. In recent years we are receiving up to 1 million page views. This underscores the value of providing Malaysians access to accurate, evidence-based health information in their native language. It also reflects the dedication of our volunteer translators and editors.

The dedication of our volunteers in making high-quality, evidence-based health information accessible in Bahasa Malaysia is truly inspiring. We look forward to the continued contributions by our volunteers and making further strides together in 2025.
